Amigurumi – Why I love it…

Well, I forget exactly how I first found out about amigurumi. I’m on the internet quite a lot, so I was probably searching for crochet techniques or something. One day I came across it. Amigurumi!

What is Amigurumi? It’s a Japanese form of crochet. You basically crochet in a spiral, rather than in rows. I learned to crochet in rows a long time ago, so amigurumi really intrigued me. I learned how from looking at this one website (which I can’t find at the moment) and from Crochet Me.

It’s funny, since last year amigurumi has become more and more popular. That’s one of the reasons why I can’t find that first website. It’s gotten buried in google search. The other reason being my computer is down at the moment and that’s where the link was saved. >_<

Anyhoo, why do I love amigurumi? Because you can make pretty much anything as long as you imagine it. It’s absolutely great! My first attempt at ami is this bunny here:

I just figured it out as I went along, undoing and redoing stitches until I liked what was created. This ended up being one of the first things I put on my Etsy shop as well, and also my first sold piece. It went to a baby. 🙂

Lately, I’ve been trying to figure out ways to improve my amigurumi. I’m trying to make things that people haven’t seen before. Right now, I’m working on a pattern for a werewolf and also a Blast-Ended Skrewt. If you don’t know what that is, then read Harry Potter. 😛 I also have other things in the works. If anyone has anything in mind they want to see as an amigurumi please feel free to let me know.

So, again, the reason why I love amigurumi is because your mind is what holds you back or what brings you forward. Whatever you think of in your head you can make into amigurumi. It may be difficult, but it’s so much fun to figure out!

You made that bunny without following a pattern? Nice! Amigurumi is awesome. 🙂

Yup. But, I was also crocheting for 10 years off and on before that as well. I love amigurumi. It’s so easy and fun! Everyone should try it.
