Where’s My Motivation?

Sorry I haven’t blogged in almost three months!!! Wow.

So, I meant to update my Couch to 5K progress each week, but obviously I didn’t. I did though on twitter if you follow me there. Link can be found on the left side.

It went well. I reached the end of it a few weeks ago actually. I remember week 3 and 4 being the hardest. I meant to keep at it, doing it three times a week, but for the past couple of weeks I haven’t. I’ve been exercising and jogging sporadically; the last time I jogged was Saturday. It even helped my health issue but even that hasn’t motivated me. I mean, really, my health should motivate me, but it hasn’t. Even as it gets worse I know in my head that I should just exercise but no…something in me is kinda saying “whatever” while another part of me is fighting that mentality. *sigh*

So, that’s where I am at the moment. I won’t stop exercising at all, but I need to bring it up to par!!! Where’s my motivation? Where did it go? Last year I did Healthy Habits and was motivated the whole time, but when it was over I didn’t continue. Do I only have motivation when a contest or a goal is involved? Where’s the motivation for my life?

Couch to 5K Week 1

Well, Saturday morning I finished my first week of Couch to 5K. For those that don’t know, Couch to 5K is where you train your body to be able to jog 5 kilometers (a little over 3 miles). The first week you alternate between walking for 90 secs and jogging for 60 secs. You do this three times a week. The difficulty level gradually goes up each week, for a total of 9 weeks.

After just three days I noticed a huge difference. I’ve been exercising off and on for a while now, and recently I’ve been in the off phase. I always wanted to…or really planned to get going again, but there was no motivation on my part. At least not anymore. I get into moods. Back in the fall I did Healthy Habits with a group of online friends. I wish I hadn’t stopped, because I was really fit! That lasted 8 weeks I believe. I started to tone up, but after the 8 weeks I slowly stopped exercising.

The funny thing is it’s not like I don’t like exercising. When I do it, I really like it and it’s fun, but actually getting up to do it just doesn’t work for me sometimes. It’s so easy to just sit around and say I’ll do it tomorrow. Well, tomorrow is now!

So, today is Monday and we went out to start the second week of Couch to 5K. This week we alternated two minutes of walking and 90 seconds of jogging. I also plan to up my exercise to 3.5 hours of exercise this week and going forward. That’s what I was doing for Healthy Habits back in the fall. Plus, I can’t just work out my legs. I have to get my arms and core into it as well. I’ll also do some supplemental leg exercises as well. It’ll make my jogging go a lot better.

I guess Healthy Habits worked in a way after all. It wasn’t a continuous thing, but ever since I stopped I’ve wanted to go back to it.

If you’re thinking about exercising, whether it be walking, going to the gym, or whatever you fancy, I really encourage it! You’ll feel better in the long run and healthier!

Those Pesky Plastic Grocery Bags…Again!

Last week I blogged about knitting a reusable bag out of plastic grocery bags (Those Pesky Plastic Grocery Bags). Today I found a really good looking crocheted version that I’d like to share.

So, for all those crocheters out there, here you go. I’m actually quicker at crocheting than knitting, so I’m going to try out this pattern first for the HPKCHC (Harry Potter knitting and Crochet House Cup). :)

Hi guys! Some of you may already know, but I’m a member of the Etsy Hookers Team. For our sixth challenge we were asked to create something animal related. So, I made a small little bunny. It was inspired by J.K. Rowling’s Beedle the Bard tale, Babbity Rabbity and Her Cackling Stump.

Those Pesky Plastic Grocery Bags!

Ugh! They suck!

I have been buying the reusable grocery bags. They’re a dollar and the grocery stores plaster their names all over them. Sometimes I forget them when I go to the store though. I know people keep them in their car, but 1) I don’t have a car, and 2) When I go with someone that does, we sometimes forget to put them back in the trunk. >_<

So, before I bought the reusable bags, and even now, I have a bunch of plastic bags stored up in a cabinet in the kitchen! You can go to the store once, forgetting your reusable bags, and they'll give you about twenty plastic bags. They add up quickly!

There are two stores near me that actually have a recycling bin for them in their stores, which I love. These stores are Acme and Whole Foods. If those aren’t around you, I’m sure there are other chains that do this as well. Check around your neighborhood. Help the environment and recycle those plastic bags!

Another great way to recycle those bags is to crochet or knit a reusable grocery bag out of them! That’s what I’m doing for the Harry Potter Knitting and Crochet House Cup (HPKCHC). If you’re a member of Ravelry and love HP, then I would suggest you join the group. It’s a ton of fun! For Transfiguration class that’s what I chose to do!

I first saw this done on a show I used to watch called Knitty Gritty, on the DIY Channel. Used to because it has since been cancelled. :( This show helped me a lot with my knitting. I had learned the year or so before I started watching this awesome show. The website has videos from parts of the episodes, which is good. This was a really great show. *sigh*

The project I’m referring to is the Recycled-Plastic Carryall. When I first saw it I wanted to do it, but just never did for some reason. Now that I’m doing the project in the HPKCHC, I figured this would be a good time to try it!

I am changing a couple of things from the original pattern linked above. Instead of cutting off the handles of the plastic bags, using leather for the handles of the finished project and multipurpose polypropylene string to sew up with, I’m going to use all plastic. Why not? I’m trying to use as much as I can! My idea is to make i-cords to use as the handles instead and just sew it up with more plastic bags. I may add ribbon to spruce it up, but not sure yet. I have to see what I have in my stash.

I want to see everyone do this! It’ll help the environment as well as give you a new reusable bag! Who wants to join me? How many can we make in June? Get those pesky plastic grocery bags from where you store them and start creating!

LeakyCon2009 – Boston

I just wanted to say really quickly that it was awesome, and I can’t wait to meet up with these wonderful people again! There was so much to talk about this weekend, but I think I’ll leave that for later posts when I remember them better. It’s just one big awesomefest in my brain mixed all together in a short-term memory lapse goo. *sigh*

Vegetables! I need some recipes!

I’ve been eating more vegetables lately. I’ve noticed, though, that I need to add some pizazz to my recipes! I have made ratatouille, but besides that I just either microwave, steam, saute or bake plain vegetables without any flair. So, my question to you all is…

Do you have any vegetarian recipes? Good yummy ones! :D

Jumping Rope! Do it!

I like exercising, but it gets repetitive at times. I get bored. I lose motivation. I’m always looking for something different.

I bought this jump rope a long while ago. Never opened it. It was sitting in my closet. Yesterday I remembered it was there, and I went outside (after much complaining) and walked around, jump roping, here and there. It was fun! It’s something new that’s old. Used to do it all the time when I was young, but haven’t done it in years.

Then I was thinking I should never have stopped! It’s a great way to get in some exercise and the more people the merrier.

Just look at the benefits!

Why’s it so hot??? Blech!

Um, yeah. I usually don’t complain about the weather, but it really did get too hot, too quickly. Yes, I know it’s not going to last, but I’m still going to complain. :P

I can’t wait until Wednesday when we get a nice cool front. It’s going down about 20 degrees to normal spring temperature. We’re also getting some April showers as well. Love those April showers.

Okay, I guess I didn’t complain too much. You know, what I hate the most is the humidity. When it’s hot here, it’s usually humid. Ick. Can’t stand it!!! *sigh*

Well, I guess I’m done for now. I’m going to make a nice cold smoothie! Not only will it cool me off, but I’ll get a serving of fruit as well. Win/win! :D
